Dr. McNulty's Personal Side

How the journey began...

I worked as a Paramedic for 15 years before transitioning to Nursing full-time and pursuing my Doctorate. While working as a Paramedic then a Registered Nurse I was given the privilege of helping many of my friends and neighbours during some of their darkest healthcare moments. I learned early on that compassion and honesty are what were needed in these moments.

Why did you choose to become a Nurse Practitioner?

When I decided to pursue my Nurse Practitioner education it was with the intention of caring for a community in need of healthcare close to home. I always envisioned having a practice in a small mountain community where resources are limited, and healthcare isn’t easily accessed. I want to make a difference in my community and be a steady, dependable health partner in the lives of the people I am privileged enough to call my patients.

What do you like to do with your free time outside of the clinic?

Free time is a rare commodity, but when it happens, I enjoy quiet time at home with my family and my dogs. I am blessed to have my parents nearby, my daughter and her family just a hop over the mountains and my husband and son at home with me keeping me sane. When I’m not hanging out with family and friends or working on house projects, I can be found reading a good book, playing with my dogs, or getting in some exercise.

Vanessa Sandlin, FNP-C

Since I was a teenager, I have wanted to provide medical care for people in need. Growing up in a rural area, I understood the need to bring health care to small communities. I am grateful for the opportunity to join Dr. McNulty in providing medical care to the residents of Florissant and surrounding communities.

I graduated from nursing school in 2008 and worked in various settings, including an intensive care unit, emergency/transport nursing, a medical/surgical unit, and a nursing home. I graduated as a Nurse Practitioner in November 2021.

I love spending time with my husband, dog, cats, friends, and family in my free time. I also enjoy reading, gardening, quilting, walking, and baking.
